Dip Naturopathic Nutritional Therapy

Nutritional Therapist

After working for a number of years as an Occupational Therapist in the NHS I retrained as a naturopathic nutritionist in order to work with people on a deeper level. Nutritional therapy is about getting to the root cause of a problem, rather than using a sticking plaster approach – which can only last so long. It focuses on the complex biochemical processes that contribute to the healthy functioning of our body systems, and takes into account the influence of our environment. The reason food is so important is that it provides us with the essential nutrients that ensure all these processes run smoothly.

Nutritional therapy is beneficial for most people, from those with diagnosed conditions, such as diabetes and heart disease, to the many symptoms people feel they have to just live with, such as stomach problems, poor skin, fatigue, hormonal and weight issues. Aches and pains, headaches and frequent colds also come within its remit.

Whilst nutrition is an essential foundation I feel that for chronic conditions it’s also important to look at general lifestyle and habitual behaviours/emotions, as these impact hugely on health and are far too often ignored. Taking control of your diet and lifestyle isn’t always easy, but it’s definitely worth it. And it doesn’t always have to involve a radical overhaul – it’s incredible what a difference a few consistent changes can make!
