Membership Criteria
The GNC consists of organisations working on an equal footing with agreed aims, and includes lay committee members to bring a consumer perspective. There is no individual practitioner membership of the GNC — practitioners can only be members via their professional association.
Organisations eligible for inclusion as full members of the GNC should:
- Be a professional organisation with a functional UK-based administrative office that:
- Represents qualified naturopaths, or therapists practising according to naturopathic philosophy
- Requires minimum criteria of qualification and training as laid down in the GNC Core Syllabus, including supervised practicum
- Maintains a register of members
- Verifies that their members hold suitable professional indemnity and public liability insurance to practise
- Or be a school accredited by a GNC member organisation
- Be able to demonstrate how the above criteria are implemented
- Be accountable to and for its members
- Have a membership database of at least 25 individual qualified and practising therapists
- Be prepared to abide by the GNC Memorandum and Articles of Incorporation, Rules and Code of Ethics, Disciplinary and Complaints Procedure, and Continued Professional Development procedures
- Acknowledge the National Occupational Standards (NOS) for the practice of Naturopathy as the benchmark
- Acknowledge that the GNC shall determine the membership eligibility of applicant organisations, and that the council’s decision on the granting or termination of membership shall be final
- Remain current with annual subscription payments within the period defined by the GNC Memorandum and Articles — organisations that fail to do so shall not be considered members
- Be and remain financially solvent
